Valuation price of amber

24 grams of second best quality amber, found in Roskilde Fjord

Unprocessed amber can be bought in many cities, however, the finest and most varied quality you will find along the Western coast of Jutland from Skagen in the North to the Elbe in the South. It is cheaper to by amber from the locals who must not pay taxes of the sales, as a buyer you should, however, try to discuss the price which should be fare compared to the size and the quality of the amber.

Processed amber is easy to buy in Denmark. - The best quality should be the most expensive, unfortunately this is not always so. This often is the fact because the shops have been tempted to sell some of the cheaper and million of years younger amber from Eastern Europe. Often there are differences in the colors as the amber from Eastern Europe is light-yellow, milky-white or a combination of these types with coal-particles (commonly called “jordrav” (earth amber).

Amber piece weighing 209 gram in medium quality found in Limfjorden, 2017.

The brown or golden transparent amber is much older than the “jordrav” earth amber, and therefore of a much better and more valuable quality.

A private collector of amber can sell it to local, private buyers or directly to one of the many amber grinders with workshops and regular shops in the cities alongside our coasts. Normally the buyer pays in cash according to a common used quality scale for amber pieces:
